The Minute Physics Video!! This project is where we choose a Physics concept and make a 2-3 minute stop motion video on that topic. First, of course, we had to come up with our topic. Ours is building a computer. We then made an outline on what we are going to talk about in the video. After, we started the development of the script. We made a rough draft, then showed the draft to Mr. Vetter. After this, we continued working on the script, refining it until it was top notch quality. After this, we started the actual drawing for the film, as it was a stop motion. We did this by taking a specialized stop-motion camera and hooking it up to the computer, then taking a few pictures every few seconds. This took a very long time, we had finished the video. We then decided to make it cooler after finishing our rough draft, as you can see below. But then... The audio! This part was the most annoying, because it took us a very long time, with all of the audio goof-ups and such. After this, we had to splice the audio and video together, and then we were pretty much done. The video is embedded below. Please comment on the video on my "About me" page. Thanks for watching!!
Career Day!! For Career Day, we had to call businesses and shadow someone with a job we may like to have. First, I emailed Tracy Nathan, a teacher at High Tech Middle. After a while, she responded, saying that I could shadow her on Friday. I thanked her and waited until Career Day. On Career Day, the first thing that happened was advisory. I had nothing to do, so I talked to Ms. Nathan and she told us what to do for the day. By the time that this conversation was over, it was time for first period. Ms. Nathan introduced us to her class, then she had us go around to witness the book clubs that were going on. I helped point the students in the right direction when they were going off topic, and gave them pointers on the book. Then came break, where I ate my snack and talked to Ms. Nathan about the class, and how they were all doing. After this, it was second period, and the same thing happened all over again. Then lunch! I got my lunch and talked with friends about how Career Day was going for them. Then Ms. Nathan hosted a socratic seminar, where I again watched and took notes on the students behavior. I noticed that all the students were uncomfortable at first, but once someone started talking, they all were very talkative, speaking out and being more polite then they were. Afterwords, the students played "The Game of Life", which was kind of like a real life scenario, but all dependent on chance, as the students rolled a die, and whatever number they got meant something. It was extremely entertaining, as it was complete but organized chaos. After this ended, it was Ms. Nathan's passing period, and I went and observed the art teacher. It was even more chaotic then "The Game of Life", partly because the students were all seventh graders. I helped out my friend Nathan (not the teacher) fill up the paint trays every so often and kept the kids from completely destroying the room. After this, it was time to go home, which I was looking forward to. It was a long day.
Phinding Physics Poster Project! In this project, we were randomly assigned a physics concept, mine being the universal law of gravitation. After, we did a bunch of research on the concept, we started the brainstorming on how to make the poster relatable too. I made a connection that gravitation works almost exactly like a magnet. Then, we sketched up our ideas and gave them to Mr. Vetter for critique on our ideas. After this, we finished up our poster, and made up some questions about our topic. Mine are linked below. Questions My final poster is shown here ---------------------------------------------->
Exhibition! This was a cooperative project between Humanities and Physics. The details of this project are on my "Exhibition" tab of my DP.
Tape Art Project! This project is where we make a head of a physician out of tape. My physician was Einstein. First what we did is we taped 4 8.5x11 sheets of paper together to make a background. After this, we stenciled in the name of the physician at the bottom. After that, we made the head out of tape.
Right now we are in the process of doing a zero landfill project. For this project, we are working on making HTH a zero landfill school, which means that we put nothing into the landfill. We are working on making sorting tables to sort composting, recycling, terracycling, and polyetheline. This project has been discontinued due to costs. Sorry for the inconvinence.
Mr. Vetter asked to us to make a sorting table... Here are our first "drafts", if you will...
The HOHAM super hero project is my first major project of the year, involving all of my classes except math. The other elements will be under the respective classes. The HOHAM super hero project is really cool. We have to make a super hero or base one off of a HOHAM. A HOHAM is an acronym for habits of heart and mind. We based our habit, which was evidence, on the Doctor, from Doctor Who. FIrst, we drew a picture of him, and scaled it up to fit a piece of plywood. Then we made a character file for him. After we transfered the picture onto the plywood, we cut it out with a jigsaw. After this, we painted the board, and hung it up. We also made a comic to go with it, go to my Writing tab to veiw the comic.
My kinder cone project is my first project of the year that is for only one class. This project was really fun. Mr. Vetter showed us one word, Schultute, and then we had to figure the rest out on our own, which is one of the things I like about HTH so far. He gave us a nudge when we strayed too far from the path, and showed us how to roll up the cone, but the design and other stuff of that sort was up to us. On my cone, it had a dragon outlined in gold, with an erupting volcano behind it. Then,we got to give it to the kindergarteners, and that part was awesome. We had to give them a lecture on the history of the kinder cone, which comes from Germany, and how they gave it to kids on the first day of school. Me and my friend's child, Kingston, started to fall asleep! But overall, it was a really fun project.
